I thought today was the perfect opportunity to share with you all an Irish Blessing that I love. I think I’m something like 1/12th Irish, or something equally as ridiculous, but my mom always had an affinity for anything Irish – and so do I.
When I turned 16 she gave me a card with this blessing on it and I think she must have forgotten, because when I turned 19, she bought me the same card. When we found a fridge magnet with the blessing on it while we were shopping together when I was in University, she bought 1 for me, and 4 for her. 1 for her fridge, and 3 to give away. I love this.![]()
In case you can’t read it, here it is:
May the road
rise to meet you,
may the wind
always be at your back,
may the sun
shine warm upon your face,
may the rains
fall softly upon your field…..
It’s on my fridge, and every time I read it I smile.
I’ll post a St. Patrick’s Day recap this weekend after the festivities have all wrapped up. Green milkshakes for some of us, and green beer for others. I think I’ll stick to the former – one drink and despite my loosely held claim to Irish ancestry, this lightweight would be singing Irish Rover’s songs insisting 1/12th is enough for an Irish kiss.
No lie.
What a beautiful poem! Thanks for sharing that...I will be writing that down for sure.
