Today on Twitter someone asked the question “What food could you live without?” and it got me thinking. I think I’ve never really looked at food that way. Not “ What food couldn’t you live without?” When so many years of my life have been spent obsessing about food, it’s an interesting concept to consider what I could live without.
So here are five foods I could live without:
- Cookies, cake and the like. I don’t even like baked goods…but God knows if they’re here, I’ll eat them.
- Potatoes. I would rather eat a sweet potato any day of the week. So why exactly do I buy and cook potatoes? Hmm…
- Red meat. I don’t eat beef, and every time I eat pork I think “huh, should have made chicken.”
- Granola bars – any and all. It doesn’t seem to matter to me what the ingredients are. I have one bite, and it triggers something in my head to send me into full on binge mode.
- Rice. I don’t like it. Brown or white. I have never liked it.
So, what have these foods been contributing to my life? Cravings, binges and unnecessary calories. I’m going to do without them until July 1st, and if I miss them, I’ll add ‘em back (with the exception of the granola bars and baked goods.) I find myself buying and cooking things out of habit, and I need to shake things up a bit.
What foods could you live without?
Oh my :) you have my two favorite foods on there - rice and cake! I agree with you on the cookies (donuts too), could definitely live without those. I could live without chips - any kind of chips, I don't even really like them, only eat them because they're there...and bacon, turkey bacon, full fat bacon, either way it's calories I don't need and food I just don't like enough to justify it!
ReplyDeleteI think it's great you're ridding your day of things that are trigger foods for you! I can't wait to hear what you decide to either kick to the curb or bring back. Either way - you'll do great!
ReplyDeleteInteresting question! I like but could live without: cereal, potatoes, pork (or even chicken...just couldn't live without beef or shellfish), pie, and sorbet (but not ice cream). I'm not going to take those off my menu though because Dave is a picky eater and if he will eat it and it's marginally healthy, then I make it.
ReplyDeletepoptarts.
ReplyDeletewe love and hate each other.
totally.

I could do w/o hamburgers, hotdogs, and pizza. I know I am weird but I really do not like any of them. I will eat them b/c they are there but I never want/crave them. I could also live w/o pork too.
ReplyDeleteIf Cookies and Cake just magically disappeared off the face of the planet, it would make me one happy camper!
ReplyDeleteGreat question. Iceburg lettuce - tastes like nothing!Fruit juice, white bread, American cheese
ReplyDeleteI live without A LOT of foods, actually. When I give people the list of foods I have to avoid, they're always shocked that I'm able to make it through life.
ReplyDeleteYou won't find me eating:
-Processed or cured meats
-Peanuts
-Soy products
-bananas and citrus fruits
-dark chocolate
I already live without so much because of the whole nonsense of being sensitive to gluten ... but I could definitely add red meat to that. I'm much more of a poultry girl.
ReplyDeleteI could live without potatoe chips...they don't serve any purpose for me...but they are good.
ReplyDeletethat's a very interesting way of looking at it, I'll have to give this some thought!! :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm...what I could live without?
ReplyDelete-Cereal (any and all kinds)
-Chips (potato, dorito, etc)
-Soda
-Crackers
-Bread
-Brownies/Cake (NOT cookies...;)
The funny part is, like you, I eat these a lot more than I should, when I don't even like them all that much!SO surprising.
WOW,I actually would have to think about this. I can def say that I could not live without, Greek yogurt,Boca vegan bugers and hot sauce! I like me some hot food. I ran across your blog tonight and after reading some of your older posts I identify with you soo much! Thank you for sharing and thank you for helping me not feel so alone!
ReplyDeletewow... you can live without the baked goods!!! i can't do thaaaaaaaaaaat! hahaha!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very interesting question. I feel the exact same way about Granola bars. If I eat one I eat the whole box and then..well it's not as good for you if you eat an Entire box. Then it makes me want to eat other things. I thought I was the only one that happened to but I guess not, lol. The only bars that have never done that to me are the Kashi bars.
